The gut contains billions of microorganisms. We distinguish between pathogenic bacteria (pathogens causing disease) and beneficial bacteria for the intestinal flora such as lactic acid bacteria. These “good” bacteria diligently help the immune system and positively influence the digestive juices, enzymes, and intestinal mucosa. They literally fight and displace the pathogens. Additionally, an intact intestinal flora ensures good digestion.
